The chairwoman of the Corona Committee, MK Yifat Shasha Biton, sharply attacked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this evening (Monday), after he berated her at a government meeting and said that "anyone who disregarded the restrictions should not make claims about the steep increase in morbidity.".
Shasha Biton responded: "When the Prime Minister informed me that he had decided to appoint me as the chairman of the Corona Committee, he emphasized the importance of the position and the great responsibility that falls on my shoulders... The responsibility that requires asking questions and casting doubts, not about the intensity of the danger posed by the pandemic, about which there is no dispute, but about the correct ways to deal with it. As is expected of elected representatives in the Knesset and on committees.
""All my actions were transparent and after consultation, I did not call on the public to "go have a beer," I did not participate in mass events without a mask, I did not invite guests to my home in violation of the guidelines, and my office employees did not violate isolation.".
""I remind the Prime Minister that he was the one who delayed the implementation of Professor Gamzo's traffic light plan until it was no longer useful.".
""I am proud that I was able to help many business owners deal with the crisis, that I fought for the opening of businesses (over two months ago. Hint: the impact on morbidity should be revealed after two weeks), beaches, pools and gyms. The opening of the latter was also the only issue that the committee approved contrary to the government's position.
""I suggest that the Prime Minister come to his senses and stop looking for blame. This is the time to increase the capacity of hospitals, create an effective system for cutting off infections, and mobilize the public in the fight by providing correct information to protect oneself and risk groups. It is also recommended to set a personal example.
""The Prime Minister would do well to concentrate on this and not on evading responsibility and throwing mud and slush.".
The coalition's chairman, MK Miki Zohar, responded to her words on his Twitter account: "For a long time now, Yifat Shasha Biton has not been acting as part of the Likud faction and is not serving its goals. She chooses to attack us and the Prime Minister personally as if her election to the Knesset would have occurred without our incredible achievement in the last elections. Good-faith is not acceptable in our districts, and therefore I believe that her continuation in the Likud faction should be considered.".
MK Osnat Mark of the Likud also responded to MK Yifat Shasha Biton's attack on the Prime Minister.
""Take responsibility for your reckless decisions. You received a bear hug from the media and the left and forgot that you work for public health. Your criminal conduct will be taught in the introduction to populism in the faculty of self-importance. Put down the keys and look for a party that will applaud you," Mark wrote on Twitter.
