Against the backdrop of the dramatic spike in the number of deaths and the number of seriously ill coronavirus patients, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Health are interested in tightening the restrictions of the holiday lockdown.
Consultations on the issue are expected to take place tomorrow, and a Corona Cabinet meeting may be held on Tuesday.
Deputy Health Minister Yoav Kish of the Likud criticized the Attorney General this evening (holiday night), claiming that Avichai Mandelblit is preventing the enforcement of the protest outline that the government decided on.
""There is a prayer outline - enforced with regulations. There is an education outline - enforced with regulations. There is a demonstration outline - not enforced! Why? The Attorney General does not approve the enactment of regulations," Kish wrote on Twitter.
Deputy Minister of Health: "In other words, political guidance from Mandelblit that harms public health and harms the unity of the people that is required for the success of the quarantine and the reduction of morbidity.".
Coronavirus Commissioner, Prof. Roni Gamzo, commented on the holiday evening on the lockdown imposed on Rosh Hashanah Eve and noted that he does not think that the stricter and tighter restrictions, which the government is expected to discuss, will reduce the incidence of the disease.
Gamzo explained in an interview with 'Kan News' that this is a "breathing lockdown," expressed optimism about its success, and said that it is "not right to impose a lockdown that suffocates people.".
Professor Gamzu emphasized that drastic steps must be taken to reduce the incidence of the disease and significantly limit gatherings in entertainment and commercial areas. However, the Corona Commissioner explained that there is an intention to allow the economy to continue working.
""We must not crush this entire system," he said, adding: "In the next week or two, we will probably have 5,000 verified every day.".
The Corona Commissioner referred to the left-wing demonstration that took place on the holiday at Frishman Beach in Tel Aviv, in which hundreds of people participated, and other violations of the restrictions - and said: "I don't want to see this anymore. It's not me, it's us. It's already getting into our blood. This is not the time for demonstrations, there's all the time in the world for that later.".
Regarding his future, Gamzo said that he is not afraid to make the right professional decision even when he has to fight.
""I get bitten and a lot of attacks from citizens too. In the end, I am committed to professional truth. It's not easy, but this is all of our war, not Ronny Gamzo's war.".
He says he receives backing from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and makes no secret of the fact that there are political pressures. "Everyone sees it. My job is to draw red lines and say where I will not give in.".
Head of Public Health Services, Dr. Sharon Al-Rai-Price, referred to the demonstrations taking place across the country, especially in front of the Prime Minister's residence in Jerusalem, and said: "Any demonstration where people are inside each other without masks and without distances is dangerous. Only about 50% of the people know where they were infected. When you are at demonstrations with a lot of people you don't know, you can't make the connection to someone who was close and tested positive.".
The number of victims of the coronavirus pandemic jumped by 60 during the holiday, and the total death toll is 1,229. 631 are hospitalized in serious condition, of which 168 are in critical condition.
