Resigns. MK Carmel Shama HaCohen of the Likud ended his short term as a member of Knesset today, and was replaced by old-new MK Alex Miller of Yisrael Beiteinu.
Shama HaCohen entered the Knesset a few months ago, after President Reuven Rivlin resigned following his election to the presidency. Shama was appointed Israel's ambassador to the OECD.
According to the agreement between Likud and Yisrael Beytenu on the eve of the elections, Alex Miller, the 33rd member of the joint list, which has since split, will now enter the Knesset. With this, the ruling party loses the title of "the largest party," and now has 19 MKs, like Yesh Atid. Yisrael Beytenu, on the other hand, is strengthening to 12 fingers in the Knesset.
Alex Miller, 37, had already served as a member of the Knesset in the 17th and 18th Knessets for the Yisrael Beiteinu faction. When the 17th Knesset was inaugurated, he was the youngest member of the Knesset.
In the 18th Knesset, he served on a rotating basis as Chairman of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee and Deputy Speaker of the Knesset. He holds a BA in teaching and a MA in public policy from Tel Aviv University.
He also serves as the chairman of the Yisrael Beiteinu Youth.
