Israel and Hamas on the way to Cairo: Will discuss a permanent ceasefire

With the ceasefire coming into effect, an official Israeli delegation left for Cairo today (Tuesday). The Israeli representatives will join indirect talks with two senior Hamas officials and a senior Islamic Jihad official who will arrive in Cairo via Rafah, in an attempt to reach understandings that will lead to a permanent ceasefire. Egypt and the Palestinian Authority will participate in the indirect talks. The 72-hour ceasefire went into effect at 08:00 and the last remaining IDF forces in the Gaza Strip moved to the Israeli side of the border. In the minutes before the ceasefire was due to take effect, alarms sounded in many areas of the country - the southern settlements, the Judean Mountains and the Shefael region - after terrorists fired a barrage of dozens of rockets.
