After Prof. Gabi Barbash waived the appointment: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein decided tonight (Thursday) that the director of Ichilov Hospital, Prof. Roni Gamzo, will be appointed to the position of national coronavirus project manager and director of the control center.

Professor Gamzo, who has many years of management experience in the health system, also previously served as Director General of the Ministry of Health, and established the 'Protector of Fathers and Mothers' project at the beginning of the Corona crisis to protect senior citizens from Corona.
The announcement of Gamzo's appointment came after Prof. Gabi Barbash, who was the leading candidate for the position of coronavirus project manager, announced that he was resigning from the appointment, apparently after not receiving the powers he requested to manage the crisis - without which, in his opinion, he would not be able to take the necessary steps.
Barbash said this evening: "The coronavirus is presenting the State of Israel with one of the most complex challenges in its history. From the very beginning of the events, I believed that in an event with so many variables, in which there is still much that is hidden than visible, it is of utmost importance to concentrate all forces under one managerial envelope that will focus the national effort required to cope with an event of this magnitude.".
""For me, personal mobilization for the issue was a matter of course, and when a proposal came to me to examine the right way to officially integrate into this effort, I believed it should be discussed seriously.".
He explained: "Everyone involved in public health knows that time is a critical component in managing this type of campaign. In recent days, I have discussed with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health and others the ways in which this national effort should be managed, and since it appears that we are not coming to a decision, I believe that the way should be cleared for decision-makers to continue discussing the urgent issues on the agenda, and not personal issues. I would like to thank the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health for reaching out to me.".
He said, "The success of the State of Israel in the campaign against the coronavirus truly depends on each and every one of us. I will continue to lend a shoulder and assist in this important national effort in various ways, as I have done since the virus broke out.".
