Minister of Science and Technology, Yizhar Shai, addressed this morning (Sunday) the confusion following the decision to close all restaurants immediately - and the postponement given from Friday to Tuesday.
In an interview with Kalman Libeskind and Assaf Lieberman on the B network, Shai said: "I recognize the pain of the restaurateurs. We made a mistake in government when we made the decision - sorry for the confusion and heartache. In any case, the government will financially compensate for all the damages resulting from its decisions.".
However, Minister Shai clarified that he stands behind the decisions made by the government, which aim to try to prevent the need to impose a full lockdown on the country.
""If we don't take drastic steps, within three weeks we will be in full lockdown," he claimed.
He added that it is impossible to back up every decision with clear data: "No one in the world can give a menu of what to open and what not.".
In the interview, Shai also addressed the Prime Minister's decision to fire the chairwoman of the Corona Committee, MK Yifat Shasha Biton, following her conduct last week - and the interview she gave last night to 'Meet the Press.'.
""We brought 11 measures to the committee and it rejected two. When the committee made its decision, there were different data. I will arrive at the committee today and try to convince its members to accept them. There is still no factional decision on how to vote on the dismissal of Shasha-Biton. I assume we will stand aside and let Likud make its decisions," Shai said - despite the fact that his party leader Benny Gantz made it clear yesterday that he would not allow her dismissal.
He added: "There is a good chance that the Corona Committee will adopt the decisions unanimously today.".
