Chief Rabbi Harav Lau is publishing this morning ahead of the fast day of Tammuz - against the backdrop of the Corona crisis.
""On this day, one should increase prayer and ask for all the sick and pour out a sermon that the plague will be eradicated," the rabbi writes. "One should add a prayer for the illnesses of children to the selichot - 'May God heal the diseases of the fruitful vine.'".
And who is not required to fast? The Chief Rabbi specifies:
""In light of the situation, due to the spread of the coronavirus disease, I hereby order the following:
• A person whose body temperature is above 38 degrees Celsius will not fast.
• Even someone who does not have a fever but has symptoms of the coronavirus disease, such as weakness, cough, difficulty breathing, or loss of taste and smell, will not fast.
• Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19, even though they feel well and have no symptoms, will not fast.
• Those who are not fasting can eat as usual and there is no need for lessons.
• There is no need to complete the fast.
"Anyone who is in isolation and feels well should fast.".
