The Judea Military Court sentenced this morning (Monday) to life imprisonment the terrorist who murdered Avraham Hasno, the rabbi, in a car bombing attack about five years ago in the southern Hebron Hills.
During the hearing, members of the Hasno family shouted at the terrorist and his family and were removed from the hearing room by prison officials. Avraham's widow, Ruth, fainted during the commotion and was treated on the spot.
Attorney Haim Bleicher of the Honenu organization, which is supporting the Hasno family, responded to the verdict: "Life imprisonment is the minimum. It's time for these terrorists to no longer live in our neighborhood.""
Avraham Hasno was murdered about five years ago, in the southern Hebron Hills. Hasno was attacked with stones near the Al-Fawar intersection, and got out of his vehicle to try to escape the attack. At that time, the terrorist Altiti ran him over with the truck he was driving, and fled the scene.
Initially, Altiti was charged with manslaughter only, but following a strong protest from members of the Hasno family, the charge was increased to premeditated murder, an offense equivalent to murder, for which he was convicted.
Yesterday, Leah Hasno, Avraham's daughter, spoke about the family's coping with the loss. In a personal letter, Leah described, "What it feels like when the ground falls from under my feet, when the family falls apart into pieces, fragments of pain, uncertainty.".
Leah described how her mother, Ruth Hasno, is forced to support 7 children and 13 grandchildren alone. She added: "The pain that pierces my heart when I see my son sleeping with a picture of his grandfather, after four and a half years. His entire teaching and path is the path of kindness and love. We have not learned to hate, it corrupts the soul. No hatred will fill our hearts.".
