Haredi tracking 10: The Labor and Welfare Committee held a heated debate today (Monday) about the plight of the Haredim, members of the national-civilian service who have families - who were laid off from their jobs but are not entitled to receive unemployment benefits. The debate was held at the request of MK Kati Shitrit, who is leading the struggle. As first reported in Haredim 10, members of the national service who have families and work in a second job, who were laid off, are not entitled to receive unemployment benefits, and as a result were left without a source of income. During the debate, MK Moshe Aboutbul was furious and shouted: "Until comfort comes - the soul will leave," referring to the Ministry of Finance's delay in finding a solution to the problem. A representative of the Ministry of Finance pledged that every Haredi family whose head of the family serves in the national-civilian service and was laid off will receive a grant according to their personal financial situation, and not a defined grant for everyone. Committee members insisted on receiving amounts and dates, but were left without a response. The chairman of the committee, MK Haim Katz, concluded by saying that a solution must be found immediately and demanded that the Finance Ministry representative return to him with answers by tomorrow. Among the participants in the discussion was also the CEO of 'Tselmo', Shai Glick, who said that many servants had contacted him - who had literally gone as far as a loaf of bread. He added and claimed that "the more servants are neglected - this will be a 'death blow' to the phenomenon of Haredim who do national civic service.".
