Officers from the police's maritime policing unit rescued a Netivot resident off the coast of Ashdod this evening (Sunday) who jumped from a yacht into the water, was unable to get back on board - and ended up in distress.

The man, in his sixties, went out with other friends to sail on a yacht west of the Ashdod Marina.

During the cruise, they decided to stop and refresh themselves in the water, and one of the friends jumped into the sea, splashed in the water, but when he tried to get back on the yacht, he was unable to do so due to the slippery side.

After several unsuccessful attempts, his friends threw him a life preserver and at the same time called the police for help.

The maritime police team quickly went to the scene, located the yacht and the person floating near it, lifted him onto the police ship and brought him safe and sound to the Ashdod Marina.

He did not require medical treatment and was reunited with his friends.
