Defense Minister Benny Gantz informed Finance Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni today (Sunday) that he is waiving a series of conditions related to state spending, by virtue of his role as alternate prime minister.
This follows the publication of a document revealing the package of benefits that the alternate prime minister will enjoy - first Gantz and later Benjamin Netanyahu.
Gantz informed the chairman of the Finance Committee that he was waiving the provision of a residence on behalf of the state and that his private home would serve as an alternate residence. "In light of the fact that my private residence will serve me during my term as alternate prime minister, I am also waiving all expenses detailed in the aforementioned section regarding the residence, including providing a staff, expenses related to the property itself, its maintenance, including hospitality expenses as may be required," Gantz wrote.
In light of the waiver of a state-funded residence, Gantz announced that he also no longer needs the expenses of storing and transporting the contents of the private residence. Gantz also wrote that he is waiving the expenses of the household for his partner and family members living with him.
The Finance Committee is expected to discuss this coming Tuesday a request to compare the salary terms of alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz to that of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, establish an alternate residence, and bear the state's overall expenses required to operate and maintain the residence.
The proposal that will be presented to the Finance Committee states: "The State Treasury will bear all expenses required for the operation and maintenance of the residence, including a staff of employees, economic expenses of the Prime Minister and those living with him, accommodation expenses, as well as any expenses for the maintenance and upkeep of the residence.".
It also states: "The daycare services will be provided by the staff of the Prime Minister's Office, including the employees of the official daycare, however, the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office may approve that the services will be provided in another way.".
