Troubles come in bundles: Rabbi Chaim Zvi Meislish, head of the Satmar Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, who was dismissed from all his positions in the community last week, received a positive result for the coronavirus this evening (Sunday).
The head of the yeshiva - Rabbi Chaim Zvi ben Chaya - has been feeling unwell for the past few days, and on Saturday morning he suffered from a high fever.
On Shabbat night, he attended a 'tish' at his father-in-law, the Rebbe of Vizhnitz, and also celebrated at a wedding held last week at his brother-in-law's house in Vizhnitz.
This is the second son-in-law of the Rebbe of Mozhnitz to be infected with the coronavirus, after his son-in-law - the Rebbe of Mozhnitz-Beit Shemesh - also contracted the virus.
Despite his illness, this evening members of the "Supreme Committee" of the Satmar community in the Holy Land published a harsh letter against the Rosh Yeshiva's people, following the severe riots on Saturday at the large Beit Midrash in the Bnei Brak housing estate - after the "Supreme Committee" ordered its closure and posted Arab security guards there.
First, the committee members explain in their letter why they ordered the closure of the Beit Midrash: "Since last Shavuot, a group of wicked people at the edge of our camp staged a terrible revolution in the great Beit Midrash hall, with a disgrace and insult to the Torah, desecration of the sanctity of the holiday and the holy Sabbath, and desecration of the Temple, to the point of bloodshed, and even more so, the heavens were desecrated in a terrible way, to the sorrow of the hearts of all who fear God.
""Therefore, in order for this not to happen again, and in order to prevent bloodshed and desecration of the Sabbath, and especially with the clear knowledge that we, the people of Dala Ma'ali, want this to happen again in the Shin Bet of the past - we said and we agreed that the proper and correct thing to do is, in our opinion, that for now the gates of the Beit Midrash will be closed on the holy Sabbath, and therefore we have invited foreign guards to close the doors of our Beit Midrash in order to prevent the desecration of the Holy Place and the Temple and our holy Sabbath, may God bless you.".
But their plan went awry: "However, to our regret, this path has been a basket of death from its beginning to this day, and the members of the aforementioned notorious sect hired a group of scoundrels and empty-handed BNI on the very day of the Shin Bet to fight with the guards to harm them in all manner of riots and murder, and maliciously desecrated the holy Sabbath in public for all to see, may God have mercy on them.".
""Therefore, we appeal to every human being whose heart is touched by the fear of God, and whose eyes hold the honor of the Lord dear, to please turn away from these wicked people, protect your lives and the lives of your descendants, and do not lend a hand to criminals, and do not assist, G-d - directly or indirectly - in the hands of these rioters.".
""Only rather, as the AU, he will do everything in his power to establish peace and prosperity in our communities, and we, for our part, will continue, God willing, to fulfill the holy mission from our Lord, the Almighty, to do fundamental acts to correct the problems of our congregations for the future, with divine help, and in the name of God we will do and we will succeed.".
""And He who makes peace on high, in His mercy, will make peace for us and for all Israel, Amen.".
