In an interview he gave to the Yedioth Jerusalem newspaper, Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon addressed the status quo in the city of Jerusalem, and dropped a "bombshell": the new country club in the Ramot neighborhood will open on Saturdays.

This is despite a lot of pressure from neighborhood rabbis and members of the Haredi coalition. "I don't understand where the claims about withdrawing the status quo come from. I only recently decided that the new country club in Ramot A, which is set to open soon, will also operate on Shabbat.".

A senior official in the Haredi sector said in response to the newspaper: "This is a dramatic move.".

Meanwhile, the mayor entered the storm of prayers at the Western Wall last night, when he said in an interview on the radio station 'Kol Berama' on the occasion of Jerusalem Day: "There is no place holier than the Western Wall. If the Reformers want to pray, then not at the Western Wall.".

The Reform movement, as well as the Women of the Western Wall, are not left behind and of course immediately attacked Leon for his words.

Media person Mandy Grossman responded: "Leon's advisors are in a beginner's spin: On the day it is announced about an opening on Shabbat in the ultra-Orthodox Ramot neighborhood, he throws a word about the Western Wall and the Reformers - incurring the wrath of a host of organizations and once again receiving the embrace of the Haredim.".
