The lockdown began: At the initiative of Safed Mayor Shuki Ohana, starting today (Thursday), entry to the city of the Kabbalists is permitted - only for residents.
In preparation for the Lag BaOmer events, Mayor Shuki Ohana contacted Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan, requesting - as part of the fight to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and the desire to prevent large gatherings and meetings - to close the entrance to Safed, and allow only residents of the city to enter and/or leave the city.
Already today, checkpoints have been placed at the three entrances to Safed and inspections are being carried out, with only Safed residents being allowed entry.
It is worth noting that the police will not allow passage through Meron from nearby communities either.
Mayor Shuki Ohana: "We managed to stop the spread of the virus in Safed. With responsibility and determination, and we will continue to act in exactly this way.".
