The Finance Committee, headed by MK Nissan Slominsky, is demanding that Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Gan Yavne be added to Government Decision 1864 regarding assistance to southern communities. The discussion was held at the request of MK Yitzhak Cohen, MK Yaakov Litzman, MK Elazar Stern, and MK Erel Margalit.
""How can I sign off on 25,000 housing units and a high-tech park, how can I attract factories to Ashkelon without us becoming a priority zone for the industrial zone?" asked Ashkelon Mayor Itamar Shimoni. According to Shimoni, since 2009, Ashkelon's industrial zone has absorbed 344 missiles. Absurdly, until 2009, Ashkelon's industrial zone was recognized as a national priority zone, and that same year, the recognition was revoked.
