For the second time in less than two months: A 19-year-old young man was seriously injured this evening (Sunday) by a lightning strike in an open area between the kibbutzims of Ein HaShofet and Ramat HaShofet in northern Israel.

Rescue forces evacuated him to Rambam Hospital in Haifa, sedated and on a ventilator, suffering from severe burns all over his body.

His friends told rescuers that there was heavy rain in the area when they saw lightning and then their friend being thrown to the ground.

Rambam Hospital reported: The young man who was taken to Rambam following a suspected lightning strike was treated in the shock room. He is currently undergoing CT scans to determine the severity of the injury. The young man is sedated and ventilated, and his condition is described as serious.

On the holiday of Sukkot, Asher Hazut, 14, from Beer Sheva, was killed by lightning while spending time with his family on the beach in Zikim.

Hazut was critically injured and died a day later at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

Four other family members were injured along with him. His sister-in-law, who was seriously injured, woke up three days later - and recovered.
