Starting from the "High Holy Days" of 2018, Cantor Meir Appeldorfer will serve as the chief cantor of the Great Synagogue in Petah Tikva.

Appeldorfer, a student of Cantor Naftali Hershtik, previously sang in Maestro Eli Yaffe's choir at the Great Synagogue in Jerusalem and even served as cantor at times.

The management of the Great Synagogue in Petah Tikva announced that "starting this month, at the initiative and under the leadership of Cantor Meir Appeldorfer, emphasis will be placed on adapting the prayer to the general public, lovers of cantorship and lovers of singing, so that on the one hand the cantor will be accompanied by an expanded choir, and on the other hand there will be a particularly lyrical prayer text - so that lovers of singing and cantorship can also enjoy it.".

The synagogue adds that "all of this will be within a reasonable time frame and will satisfy, on the one hand, lovers and enthusiasts of cantorism, and on the other hand, so that even those who came just to hear a shtibel-style prayer will feel at home.".

The Great Synagogue recently underwent a comprehensive renovation, which will be completed by the end of the year, led by the mayor. "We would love to see you participate and feel part of the Great Synagogue family," the synagogue management says.
