Nature and Parks Authority inspector at the Coral Coast Nature Reserve in Eilat, Chen Topikian, This afternoon (Sunday), as part of a surveillance activity using a drone, a rare and spectacular recording of a pod of gray grampus dolphins hundreds of meters from the shore was obtained.

The group consisted of 4 females and 4 juveniles, who swam side by side in a spectacular manner.

Dr. Assaf Zevuloni, Eilat Bay Ecologist at the Israel Nature and Parks Authority: ""Grimpos are relatively large dolphins that can reach 4 meters in size. The faces of the gillpos are flattened in contrast to the elongated faces of bottlenose dolphins. The color of the gillpos ranges from gray to white, with scars often seen on their skin.

""Grampus are common in most temperate and tropical regions of the oceans and seas around the world, including the Mediterranean and Red Seas along the coast of Israel.

"Usually, grampus are found far from the coastline, in areas where the bottom is deep. In the Gulf of Eilat, the slope is very steep, so they were observed relatively close to the coastline.".
