Netanyahu's agreement or even leadership of the ceasefire outline proposed by the Egyptians raised quite a few sharp criticisms that quickly degenerated into provocative calls such as "Bibi, you're a rabbit. Resign. We failed. We were defeated, Bibi will become a puppet of the left, it will cost us dearly, Hamas won, why did we even embark on this operation, and so on.".
But after a deep look at all the variables and political, military, and international facts, and the interests of both sides, she suddenly understands what the strategy that the political-security elite has adopted.
And it turns out to be a brilliant tactic.
With the start of the operation, the Prime Minister realized that he enjoyed broad international support for the current operation.
Only what? He is limited in the moves he can make without getting involved legally, politically, or internationally. These moves, it turns out, are significantly effective against Hamas and could humiliate it or cause it long-term damage.
What is the solution, then?
Hamas, as every first-year IDF student understands, will not really agree to a ceasefire. Certainly not under such conditions. Egypt is not really keen on a ceasefire either. It makes much more sense that it would be happy if Hamas, an ally of the Muslim Brotherhood, were wiped off the map.
The cooperation between the two countries, Egypt and Israel, produced a fantastic document that will not be relevant to Hamas, but will provide Israel with the peace it seeks, in preparation for the next steps.
And Hamas, like a mouse walking blindly into a trap, as expected, refused the "sliding" outline from its perspective, and Israel has the international legitimacy for extensive and effective activity.
The blame for any difficult image from the Gaza Strip will now be attributed to Hamas, the organization that chose to continue firing and refused to accept the ceasefire agreement.
And the Egyptians? They were just waiting for Hamas to refuse, or as Professor Fuda said today on Channel 2, rejecting the Egyptian offer is a serious blow to Egypt, so that they will not forget Hamas' behavior, and will respond in a painful way that only the Egyptians know how to do.
