Nothing like this has ever been seen in poetic Mizrahi music. Each of the cantors who will perform in the Grand Hall of the Jarrar Bakr Theater in Jerusalem this coming Sunday - the 15th of Tammuz 5774 - has a large and diverse audience of fans, each with a different repertoire of songs, each with a different style, each with a rich and magnificent series of albums that have become, over the years, ironclad assets in poetic music. But they all have one thing in common - authentic Egyptian music composed and performed by the greatest Egyptian musicians: Omkulthum, Abdel El Wahhab, Abdel Halim and others.
'The 'Jerusalem Concert', which symbolizes the unity between the great cantors and the best performers of today, who will appear together on the same stage for the first time, and will perform, among other things, joint 'duets' from a selection of nostalgic songs by the old and great cantor, Rabbi David Riachi, who passed away about a year ago, and which this evening is a sign of honor to his memory and to the memory of his musical legacy.
The musical direction of the concert is entrusted to Ariel Cohen. Cohen is a musician, composer and conductor of the classical Mizrahi orchestra "Firekat El-Nur", and the "Connections" choir of cantors and children, who will accompany the performance.
Meir Pinchas, the initiator and producer of the event, told Cantors 10: "In retrospect, it's a shame I didn't choose to perform the concert in a larger venue, because the audience is literally 'pointing with their feet'; but I'm still open to future performances, God willing.".
The event is being held with the assistance of Jerusalem Municipality officials: Nati Lasri - Chairman of Shas in Jerusalem and Yehuda Naftali - Director of the 'Israel Heritage' Department in the Jerusalem Municipality.
