How to deal with the demand for revenge

God is the avenger of God, all of whose ways are justice and truth - whose justice and retribution are exact measure for measure. • But how do we avenge ourselves? Is the desire for retribution just or is it nothing more than emotional outbursts? • And what is the difference between deterrence and revenge?

Seven people are:

One rejoices at the murder of the kidnapped and mourns the discovery of their bodies.

The other is not happy but does not object.

The third objected but would not say no in a voice that would not be swallowed.

The fourth objected, but loudly, and said - we need peace. A peace of imagination.

The fifth resists and percolates.

The sixth one is weeping and crying.

The seventh cries and even demands revenge.

This is the scale that begins with human animals, passes through people with sensitive hearts, and ends with...?

However, are those seeking revenge also animalistic? How do we respond to the demand for revenge that rises and cries out from within the nation? Is revenge injustice after injustice? Is revenge emotional outbursts? Is revenge cold and honest justice?

Measure against exact measure

God's vengeance, two vengeances, one in emotion and one in intellect.

God can avenge even emotional revenge: If I turn my sword into lightning and take hold of the rod of judgment in my hand, I will take vengeance on my enemies and repay those who hate me. I will make my half drunk with blood, and my sword will devour flesh with the blood of the innocent, and I will lead the captives from the head of the enemy Pharaoh.

This is a revenge of emotion and song, but with a precise 'trial' and 'payment' of measure for measure.

As humans, emotional revenge is forbidden to us, "you shall not avenge," the Torah commanded. Because emotional revenge is not measured and just, but rather rage and fury. But intellectual revenge is obligatory and commanded, "The righteous will rejoice because he sees vengeance," and even "the righteous will rise in honor, with a double-edged sword in their hand to take revenge on the nations.".

Our duty, then, is not to take revenge into our own hands, but to sit down with a serious mind with those who deserve it and consider what kind of revenge would be appropriate as blood revenge.

Between revenge and deterrence

It is important to emphasize: There is no connection between "deterrence" and "revenge." Deterrence is not proportionate, and in its name one can exaggerate and indulge in injustice. "Revenge" of reason, on the other hand, comes to do justice, not harming every Arab who walks by, but a court that will decide what is justice and what is the fate of those who murdered the boys and the value of life.

But what do we do when those entrusted with our safety are elevated in their positions and do not provide us with peace of mind, security, and calm? What do we do when the blood of the Fogel family, Shelly Dadon, and others still flows unabated and without vengeance?

The words blended into a song for me:

I don't cry for them, but for those who come.

They are not three, but thousands.

Thousands of murdered people who are still on their feet,

And the State of Israel is giving up their lives.

Weep for those who are leaving and weep for those who are about to leave,

Jews are weak and helpless, and a vengeful hand is at work.

You can sit for seven days to comfort yourself,

And one can smile if one day we will rise and take revenge.

 Sixty-five years of state,

They did not provide the boys with protection.

It's just that we're missing an ingredient,

Leaders who see from there what they see from here.

For if you wish to be accepted into the family of nations,

It is not possible to tweet about them and condemn them.

Only brave leaders,

That the UN is a shambles, and a people dwells alone.

Without Iron Dome, and without handcuffed soldiers,

To hit with a fist - evil, and evil people on airplanes.

And we will cut this and also keep it,

For the next elections and behind the curtain.
