The National Cyber Defense Authority announced today (Wednesday) that an unusually large cyber attack on the civilian economy in Israel was thwarted.
According to the announcement, in recent days the Authority has received extensive evidence that a cyber attack is being planned on many entities in the economy. Following the attempted attack, the Authority conducted a comprehensive analysis, which revealed the outline of the attack and how the attacker planned to carry out the breach.
The analysis conducted by the authority revealed that the attacker posed as a legitimate organization and sent emails in the organization's name, attempting to attack approximately 120 organizations, government ministries, public institutions, and private individuals, while forging a "security certificate" from a trusted company.
Following the attempted attack, the National Cyber Defense Authority published guidelines for the public on technological defense against the attack.
The authority stated: "During these hours, the National Cyber Defense Authority is carrying out additional activities, including guidelines and recommendations for the entire civilian economy, which are published on the National Cyber Defense Authority's website.".
The announcement by the National Cyber Defense Authority comes just two days after the publication on Channel 2 that the heads of the security and intelligence community opposed the establishment of the authority.
