In a joint operation by the IDF and the Shin Bet, Air Force aircraft killed terrorist Muhammad Awar, a 33-year-old resident of Mashru' Beit Lahiya, who was a member of an extremist Salafi network, last night (Wednesday).
According to reports in Palestinian media, Awar was killed while riding his motorcycle near a Hamas naval police post in the northern Gaza Strip.
Awar, a terrorist who worked as a police officer in the Hamas police, has been involved in recent years in shooting attacks and rocket launches towards Israel.
The IDF Spokesperson's Office reported that in a joint operation by the IDF and the General Security Service, terrorist operative Muhammad Awar was foiled. The infrastructure in which Awar's comrade carried out the rocket attack with him on April 21, 2014, the eve of the second holiday of Passover, in which rockets were fired at the Gaza Strip and Sderot settlements.
These days, Awar and his friends are working on additional attacks against Israel. He was involved in shooting incidents and planned to hit and shoot down an IDF helicopter. The IDF views any shooting at Israeli territory as serious and is prepared and ready to protect the country's citizens.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded: "Our policy is clear - stand up for your kill, rise up for your kill. The IDF and the Shin Bet carried out a precise operation and will continue to act forcefully against anyone who tries to harm the security of Israeli citizens. The Prime Minister added: "This is the true face of Hamas - it continues to plan terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens, even while it is within the Palestinian government. I would like to remind the international community that Abu Mazen pledged to uphold all previous agreements on the day he formed a government with the terrorist organization Hamas. This means that he is responsible for dismantling Hamas and the other terrorist organizations from the weapons caches in Gaza.".
