If we needed proof that surfing the Internet harms people's relationships with those around them, here comes the Kaspersky Lab study, showing that relationships with friends and family members may be harmed by Internet use.

According to the study published on the nrg website, a third of people admitted that as a result of using the Internet, they communicate less with their parents (31%), children (33%), spouses (23%) and friends (35%) - because they can communicate with them on social networks.

In addition, almost a fifth (16%) testified that their relationship with their daughter or partner was damaged as a result of exposure on social media.

What is behind these significant numbers?

Dr. Astrid Karolus, a media psychologist at the University of Würzburg, explains: "Studies show that digital communication now complements real-life communication. We live in a global and highly mobile world, which creates distance between partners and family members. Digital communication provides an opportunity to bridge these gaps in our modern lives.

""However, digital communication cannot completely replace face-to-face communication – at least not always and not in full. Digital communication is less rich in terms of impact on sensory channels, and as a result provides a reduced sensory quality.".
