President Shimon Peres called today to congratulate the elected tenth President of the State of Israel - Reuven (Ruby) Rivlin, and said: "Ruby, the honorable next president who was duly elected, you deserve it and I am happy about it. This is a position that brings with it a great deal of responsibility.
You need to consider every word and every deed, but you will do so successfully because you are fundamentally a warm and kind person. There is an overlap period and I am at your disposal from this moment on for any issue. My team and I will be happy to do everything possible to conduct the overlap in a respectful and appropriate manner, and I do so with a willing mind and a good heart.
"I am at the end of a 7-year term as president of a country, and this is a huge privilege, since it is a service to the people. In the position of president, you are not a ruler, you are a servant. And in my eyes, there is no higher rank than serving the people with faith, honesty, a good heart, and strong hope - and you are equipped with these qualities. I am very happy to pass on the position to you, and I wish you success and I am sure that you will succeed in all your ways and in your future, which will also be the future of the State of Israel.".
At the end of the conversation, President-elect Reuven Rivlin thanked President Peres for the warm greetings and said with great emotion: "I thank you in my name and in the name of my wife Nechama. I have no doubt in what you said. It will be very difficult for me to step into your big shoes, the ninth President of the State of Israel, Shimon Peres. It will not be easy to be the tenth president after your term, as you have done many things for the benefit of all humanity. Thank you, my dear Shimon.""
