The question of yeshiva students reporting to the recruitment offices has long been the most sensitive and controversial issue in the Lithuanian sector. While the Councils of Torah Scholars of Agudat Israel and Degel Hatorah have officially decided to continue reporting as usual to the first order sent to yeshiva students, the Rabbis Auerbach, the Rebbe of Vizhnitz, and most recently the Rebbe of Slonim, believe that in light of the new recruitment law, cooperation with the IDF should be completely severed and no attention should be paid to the summonses sent from the recruitment office.
In the month of Adar 1, the three councils of Torah scholars of Degel Hatorah, Shas, and Agudath Yisrael gathered for a historic unity gathering at the Viznitz Halls in Bnei Brak, where it was decided that the councils would meet again after the law actually passed in the Knesset, and discuss the issue of severing ties with the army. However, even though the law was passed at the end of the winter session, the councils are not meeting due to differences of opinion on the subject.
This morning, an editorial in the newspaper Yated Ne'eman, affiliated with Degel HaTorah, indicates that the issue is about to be decided in the coming days, and for now - since the law passed in the Knesset - there has been no decision on whether to stand down.
""Despite the conservative Rosh Ha-Yeshiva Shlita (Ha-Grail Shteinman -SH) having so far ordered that the draft offices be reported to receive the postponement, and in fact, at this moment nothing has changed, this week when he was asked by the yeshiva heads, the answer was delayed, and the Rosh Ha-Yeshiva refused to rule, saying that this is a matter of personal law and he hopes that there will be divine help in reaching a decision on this difficult issue.".
At the end of the article it was written: "The laws of souls await a decision! Blessed is he who surrendered his world to the guardians!""
