The five candidates arrived at the Knesset building this morning (Tuesday) ahead of the most important battle of their lives.
Ruben Rivlin told the cameras as he left his house that this was "one of the most significant days of my life. I have passed many stations and passed tests. Without a doubt, this is a central station and a crossroads where I can reach the end of one road and begin another.".
When Rivlin arrived at the Knesset building, he said that he hoped "that it would be a good day for the people of Israel, and that it would be a successful day for the Israeli Knesset, and that it would be a successful day for me as well.".
Movement Party candidate MK Meir Sheetrit said this morning in the Knesset: "I believe the chances of winning are very high." Sheetrit was asked about the nature of the ugly race and responded that "I don't say a single bad word about the contestants.".
Dalia Itzik, who is considered to have a high chance of advancing to the second round, also addressed her chances of winning the election, saying, "I believe that the Knesset will make history today and elect a woman for the first time." She noted that "the campaign was extremely ugly and I chose to run a clean campaign.".
Professor Dan Shechtman, whose chances of advancing to the second round are almost zero, said this morning that quite a few MKs told him "privately" that they would vote for him. "The MKs are smart, and they will choose the one who deserves to be president, even if no MK has publicly declared that he supports me.".
