Jews who came this morning (Monday) to pray at King David's Tomb could not believe this was happening to them: They were required to leave the place by security forces to allow a group of priests and nuns to hold a Christian prayer ceremony by the tomb.
As reported earlier in Haredim10, an aggressive campaign is being conducted by the headquarters for the Tomb of King David, in preparation for a mass protest against the government's intention to transfer the tomb complex to the hands of Christians. A similar struggle is being waged by an association headed by the grandson of the late Rabbi Yosef. The struggle being waged by the headquarters is over a room on the second floor of the complex, known as the 'Room of the Last Supper', where extensive Christian worship began yesterday. However, while they were preparing for the protest on the upper level, they were surprised to discover that already this morning, the activity had spilled over to the tomb complex on the lower level, with worshippers leaving the place, as stated, in favor of holding the Christian ceremony.
The holding of the ceremony today in an area sterile of Jews stands in contrast to all the government's statements in recent months, that it does not intend to hand over the tomb to the church.
Spokespeople for the struggle headquarters say that another wave of Christian and religious rituals are planned at the tomb complex. "We will protest against this dangerous policy," the activists promise.
Haredim10 learned that despite the Israeli government's firm denials that the tomb had been handed over to the Christian Church, a number of changes were made to the site, such as taking over the charity funds for the development of the site, and cameras were deployed to document all activity at the site.
