The Hebrew Wikipedia editors' community held a vote on the fate of the entry about Dafna Meir.
In the vote, which ended this morning (Monday) at around 8:00 AM, 39 editors supported removing the entry, while 29 editors supported keeping it. Following the results, the entry was removed.
According to a report On Channel 7, The discussion about the removal began with the argument that Wikipedia is not a memorial project, and therefore there is no place for a special entry about Dafna Meir.
At the beginning of the discussion, the editor who initiated the deletion vote wrote: "It is not possible for there to be victims of terrorism or soldiers who fell in battle who receive a value and others who do not. Since it has been decided that there is no place for commemoration on Wikipedia, it is important to delete this entry.".
The discussion also raised a long list of counter-arguments, including the claim that Wikipedia contains entries about a number of IDF and terrorist martyrs, including, for example, Roy Klein.
One of those who supported keeping the entry wrote: "I personally see that Dafna Meir meets the criteria for writing an entry about a fallen enemy system or even a famous personality. In particular, 'fallen people whose fall had extraordinary public importance, which stood the test of time (at least a year). Such importance could be, for example, in the case of a fallen person who, following his death, went on a retaliatory action, a significant military operation or an important political or diplomatic activity; someone whose name or the event in which he fell became a cultural symbol, and so on.".
""I personally also think that her life and work are important in their own right. But there is no doubt that her death and the effects of her death and the fact that she became a cultural symbol also add to the importance.".
