Tour of Ancient Districts: Antique locomotive and carriages, as part of the restoration of the Elroy train station located on the old Valley Railway route. A great place to stop and visit, and a golden opportunity for children to sit in the locomotive's seat and climb the carriages.
Station history
The El Ruai settlement was founded in 1935, when its borders were determined on both sides of the Hejaz Railway. The railway was established in 1905 by the Ottomans who ruled the country and carried passengers and freight from Haifa to Damascus. In 1936, the Mandatory Railway Administration responded to the requests of the El Ruai settlement committee (now a neighborhood in Kiryat Tivon), and placed an official sign for the train stop at El Ruai. The stop also served the neighboring kibbutz Sha'ar Ha'amakim, and from 1937 also the settlement of Kiryat Amal. The station contributed greatly to the development of these settlements.
In 1943, the railway administration built a building for the station made of silicate bricks. In 1952, trains stopped running on this line, and the station was abandoned and neglected. In 1997, the Elroy family initiated an operation to save and restore the station and its surroundings and turn it into a historical site to preserve the heritage of the "Valley Railway".
About 650 meters north of the station you will find the Elroy Spring, suitable for visiting and wading.
How do we get there?
The station is located at the northern end of Barak Street between Avinoam in Kiryat Tivon, the Al-Roi neighborhood.
Navigation to Elroy: From the Ha'amakim intersection (Route 70 and 75), turn east toward Kiryat Tivon, and after about 100 meters, turn south on Route 7213 toward Al-Roi. To reach Barak Ben Avinoam Street, you must go around the neighborhood on "Mizrahi" Street, which meets Barak Ben Avinoam Street.
