'Yeshiva University, the long-standing Jewish educational institution, has been in financial difficulties in recent years. Late last week, the management signed a deal to sell 10 buildings owned by the yeshiva in Washington Heights, Manhattan, for a total of about $72.5 million.
The ten buildings, 404 apartments in an area of 35,000 square meters, were sold to Kamadi International, a real estate company owned by the ultra-Orthodox entrepreneur Robbie Sharan. The buildings will be transferred in March.
'Yeshiva University sold the buildings as part of its recovery plan, after losing $100 million in the massive fraud of Bernie Madoff, who served as a member of the university's board of trustees.
The Mossad has suffered huge deficits in recent years, and according to Bloomberg News, its deficits were $107.5 million in 2010, $46.7 million in 2011, and $105.9 million in 2012.
""Comedy International owns many properties in New York City and has a long history of first-class professional management," a spokeswoman for Sharan said. "Comedy will keep the ten buildings as apartment buildings, and will renovate them with the aim of maintaining ownership for the long term.".
A Yeshiva University spokesman declined to comment on the deal.
