With the passing of Rabbi Moshe Michaelashvili, the rabbi of Georgia and the Lubavitcher Rebbe's emissary to Georgian Jewry for 45 years, a memorial and wake was held in a huge tent erected near his home in the Nahalat Har Chabad neighborhood in Kiryat Malachi, in the presence of Torah and Hasidic luminaries.
Many rabbis came to the rally, led by Chabad rabbis. The first rabbis of Zion also stood out in their presence: Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, Rabbi Shlomo Amar and Rabbi Bakshi Doron; the Kabbalist Rabbi Benyahu Shmueli and Knesset member and chairman of the Shas faction Aryeh Deri.
During the gathering, the family initiated the writing of a Torah scroll in his memory and for the upliftment of his soul, and the rabbis were honored by writing the first letters of the Torah scroll.
The rabbis all noted the dedication of Sage Moshe to the Georgian Jewish community.
