A political-governmental revolution in France: Members of the government resigned on Monday evening - 24 hours after the defeat suffered by President Francois Hollande's Socialist Party in the local elections held in the country.
When the official results were announced, it became clear that the far-right National Front party, led by Marine Le Pen, had achieved the greatest achievement in its history: the candidates nominated by the party are expected to head at least seven municipalities.
In light of the dramatic move by members of his government, President Hollande announced - in a special televised speech - that Interior Minister Manuel Valls would be the next prime minister. Valls replaces Jean-Marc Ayrault, who, despite having administrative skills, suffers from a poor public image, partly due to his association with President Hollande's tax policies.
In France, it is noted that the National Front's enormous achievement can be attributed, among other things, to the low voter turnout - only 631% - an all-time low in local elections in the country. This, along with the lack of worthy candidates, and the disgust that the French feel towards what is happening in the two major parties - the Socialists and the center-right bloc.
