A notice posted at the Hebron-Giv'at Mordechai Yeshiva in Jerusalem by the yeshiva's management made it clear to yeshiva students that all yeshiva students must come to the yeshiva offices to regularize their status with the army and register for the needs of the 'Yeshiva Committee.' At the bottom of the notice, it was stated that if a student fails to register, "the yeshiva removes responsibility from him.".
Behind the posting of the ad is a letter sent by the secretary of the Yeshiva Committee to the yeshiva halls and kollels, which states that "according to the law that was passed, every yeshiva or kollel student who is between the ages of 18-22 is required to submit a deferral form as before in order to regularize his status.".
At the Hebron Yeshiva, the Yeshiva's management clarified that there are no students who did not show up to arrange the postponement, and that the Yeshiva has no responsibility for those who did not complete the procedure.
The background to the letter is the instruction of some rabbis not to report to the draft offices at all, due to the draft law that was enacted, according to which in three years, Torah students will be subject to criminal punishment.
The yeshiva director, Rabbi Shlomo Karlenstein, confirmed that the announcement was made to the students, but declined to comment.
