Rabbi from Beit Hillel elected as justice of the peace in Tel Aviv

The committee for selecting judges met today (Wednesday) in the office of Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, and selected 23 judges, who will serve as district judges, justices of the peace, judges in the family courts, the traffic court, and one senior registrar.

The committee, which met this afternoon at the Justice Minister's office in Jerusalem, includes the chairman of the committee - Justice Minister Tzipi Livni; Supreme Court President - Justice Asher Grunis; Supreme Court Justice - Elyakim Rubinstein; Supreme Court Justice - Edna Arbel; Communications Minister Gilad Erdan; Knesset Member Yitzhak Cohen; Knesset Member Yitzhak Herzog; Attorney Rachel Ben-Ari; and Attorney Khaled Zoabi.

One of the appointments is that of attorney Dr. Pnina Neuwirth, daughter of Bar-Ilan University President and former Minister of Science and Technology Daniel Hershkowitz, and a member of the 'Beit Hillel' forum. She was elected as a judge at the Tel Aviv Magistrates' Court.

Neuwirt has previously called for appointing women as kosher supervisors, and she calls herself a rabbi.

Justice Minister Livni and President Grunis called the elected judges and congratulated them.
