Until a few years ago, we had the feeling that anti-Semitism was a thing of the past. Jews throughout the world enjoy complete freedom and full equality of rights.
Here and there there are anti-Semitic incidents. Cemeteries are desecrated, synagogues are damaged, Jews are attacked. But these phenomena are strongly condemned by all enlightened countries.
It is becoming increasingly clear that anti-Semitism is alive and well, but it is taking on a new form these days.
The age-old hostility toward the Jewish people today finds a convenient outlet in the world's negative attitude toward the Jewish state and its struggle for its very existence.
Inciting communication
There is no other country in the entire world that hundreds of millions openly speak of seeking its destruction. There is no other country that is forced to live for decades on its sword and protect its citizens from murderous human animals.
It was therefore expected that the entire world would side with the small and threatened country. Instead, the countries of the world are fawning over the Arabs and constantly condemning the Jews, who are fighting for their lives.
Media coverage of terrorist events in Israel does not meet any standards of fair journalism. Media outlets that are considered respectable completely ignore the facts.
A report about a terrorist who stabbed and shot Jews receives a flashy headline that states that soldiers shot innocent Arabs to death. The victim is nominated for the column of shame, while the murderous attacker is portrayed as a hapless innocent.
The global media constantly broadcasts staged events, presents things in a distorted way, and presents them with biased editing. It does not do this in any coverage of other conflict centers.
Yes, this is anti-Semitism.
These biased reports reveal anti-Semitic undertones among the public. Citizens of countries around the world, watching biased media, may get the impression that Arabs are peace-loving, hard-working people, while Jews are cruel scoundrels who indiscriminately kill men, women, and children.
The absurdity cries out to the heavens precisely in view of what is happening around us.
Look at how Egypt is fighting terrorism. It has razed hundreds of homes and agricultural areas, flooded the border with sea water – and no one is opening their mouths and whistling. A brutal bloodbath is taking place in Syria. Russia is bombing terrorist hotspots among the civilian population – and the entire world is silent. Because it is clear to everyone that it is impossible to fight terrorism with hands tied behind their backs.
But when we try to defend our cities from rocket fire – coming from territory we have left to the last centimeter – the entire world rises up to condemn us. When we stop murders that stab men, women and children in our streets, the hypocritical world says that our response is "disproportionate." What is this if not anti-Semitism?
The ancient struggle
It turns out that the struggle between Jacob and Esau, described in our parsha, will not disappear until the Messiah comes. He takes on and takes on form, but he always exists.
Therefore, it is a waste to try to please the Gentiles. They will never be satisfied, and the more we bow down to them, the more they will despise us.
The only way to stand up to this hostility is to be a genius. Not to be impressed, not to fold, not to apologize.
Fight terror with force, build the country without asking permission from anyone, firmly repel all hypocritical attacks. The truth must be confronted with lies, and with full determination.
