It's not just the ultra-Orthodox who love the series Shtisel: Martha Kaufman, creator of famous television series in the US, has purchased the rights to the Israeli series 'Shtisel', with the intention of creating an American adaptation of it, reports Haaretz.
Kaufman hired an American Jewish screenwriter with an ultra-Orthodox background who began researching the characteristics of the American ultra-Orthodox community for her.
Kaufman was exposed to the series when her daughter Hannah visited Israel, and shared the successful story with her mother.
Dikla Barkai, the series' producer in Israel, spoke about the surprising purchase: "As soon as she purchased the rights, we knew we were in good and prestigious hands. Right now, I am unable to mention the name of the series' writer, but he is a well-known person with experience writing for American television.
""Right now they are mainly busy with research because they realized that there are significant differences between the Haredi community in the United States and the one living in Israel, but as soon as they finish with that phase, I believe they will start filming a pilot.".
