Zuckerberg wrote on his personal Facebook account: "I'm excited to announce our project to provide internet from space. As part of our efforts to connect the world, we're launching a satellite that will connect millions of people. Over the past year, Facebook has been exploring new ways to use airplanes and satellites to provide internet access... This is just one of the innovations we're working on to fulfill our goals at Internet.org.".
The Amos 6 communications satellite was developed by the Israel Aerospace Industries, and it replaces the Amos 2 and Amos 3 communications satellites.
