The Rebbe, who was expected to spend the Sabbath at his synagogue on Kahaneman Street in Bnei Brak, and to conduct a 'lighting' ceremony on Saturday night in the courtyard of the synagogue, canceled his arrival in the city due to a 'shoshana' (acute infectious disease) that developed in his leg.

Due to his weakness, the Rebbe is expected to not attend Shabbat prayers at his seminary in Beit Shemesh.

The 'lighting' will also not take place in Beit Shemesh. In addition, the Rebbe will not come out to Meron on Lag BaOmer, as he does every year.

One of the Rebbe's associates told the Haredim10: "We Hasidim expect that his condition has improved and 'it is appropriate for Rabbi Shimon to rely on him in times of need.' We pray that the Rebbe will be able to appear in public on Shabbat and at the Rashbi's Hilul.".

Meanwhile, the Rebbe ordered that the lighting in Meron would take place as usual despite his absence, and that the elders of the Hasidic community would light the bonfire in his place.
