The amnesty bill by MK Eilat Shaked, chairman of the Jewish Home faction, and MK David Tzur of Hatnua, which seeks to prevent the president from pardoning murderous terrorists, passed today (Sunday) in the Ministerial Committee for Legislative Affairs with a majority of seven against three opponents - Ministers Yael German and Yaakov Perry of Yesh Atid and Minister Tzipi Livni of Hatnua. Shortly before the committee convened, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Likud ministers who are members of the committee to support the proposal.

Jewish Home Chairman Naftali Bennett responded to the bill to prohibit amnesty for terrorist murderers that passed the ministerial committee: "The State of Israel today opened a new page in the war on terror and its moral obligation to the bereaved families. Years of blackmail and wholesale releases of terrorists will be stopped with the passage of this law in the Knesset. I congratulate the ministers on their support for the law. Jewish Home will work in the upcoming session to pass the law without delay and quickly.".

MK Shaked responded: "An end to the madness of releasing murderers. The government should stay away from dealing with sentences for these offenses. This is mandatory in a country that does not have the death penalty and exists in many countries around the world." And on her Facebook page she wrote: "Many thanks to Ministers Erdan, Sa'ar, Livnat, Landver, Shamir, Orbach and Ariel for their support.".

The Jewish Home faction was also quick to congratulate. "The law passed today will resonate with everyone who plans to murder Jews. It is time for Jewish blood to stop being the cheapest commodity in the Middle East. Jewish Home, which was the only party to vote against the terrorists' releases, will continue to fight to stop any such decision in the future.".

MK Robert Ilatov, one of the initiators of the bill, said: "This is a necessary bill that also exists in US legislation, according to which there are exceptional crimes for which there is no possibility of pardon - such as child murder, mass murder, particularly brutal murders, serial murders and more. The bill is aimed at any act of murder, regardless of religion, race and gender as to the identity of the murderer. Its goal is to make the punishment more severe, with a punishment that is not the death penalty and is still more severe than the current one. "I am confident that the bill will result in the distorted minds of those who consider committing an act of murder, and do not care about its consequences for the victim or his family, having at least a little compassion for themselves. In this way, we will increase deterrence and I believe that we will prevent a significant portion of murders in the State of Israel. This bill contains a simple equation that exists in every civilized country - whoever robs a world in its entirety will pay with the life he robbed of in its entirety.".
