The law in New Zealand allows free travel on the expressway, only for vehicles with more than one passenger. • So how does a young driver who doesn't want to pick up hitchhikers and doesn't want to pay the annoying toll get by?

The highway on Highway 1 in Israel allows free travel on its route as long as the vehicle accommodates three or more people. In Auckland, New Zealand, two passengers are enough to allow free travel.

So what does a lone driver do who wants to drive in the express lane and not pay?

The simple solution is to pick up 'hitchhikers', people who want to get into the car. This is also the practice in Israel. However, one passenger, about 24 years old, had a more creative solution.

He made a doll, dressed it in jeans and sunglasses, and placed it in the passenger seat next to the driver.

The ruse worked for the other drivers on the road, and no one noticed his actions. A police officer driving by, however, did not fall for the trap, and asked the car to pull over to the side of the road.

The scarecrow was soon discovered, and the embarrassed traveler apologized because it was the first time he had done this.
