First Haredi woman in the Knesset?

The daughter of Rabbi Yosef and daughter-in-law of the Israel Prize, Adina Bar Shalom, announced today (Monday) during a television interview on the Knesset channel that she is seriously considering the possibility of running in the next Knesset elections.

""If they don't allow me to fulfill my life's mission, which is higher education for the Haredi sector, then they will see me in the Knesset," said Bar-Shalom, the college's founder. According to her, the bodies responsible for higher education do not know the Haredi sector and discriminate against it, despite its higher achievements than others.

She also said that she had previously received applications from various parties - and refused. "But if in order to continue the enterprise I founded I have to go to the Knesset, I will go. I am thinking about it very seriously.".

When asked directly whether she would run in the next Knesset elections, she replied: "Yes, unless they interfere with my running the college.".

Bar Shalom's name was also mentioned as a candidate for president of the country - a candidacy supported mainly by women's organizations.
