Chanukah Recipes: Pancakes and Donuts with a Spicy Twist

Meir Rosenberg, head chef at the Rimonim Gali Kinneret Hotel, provides recipes for pancakes and donuts, but adds a twist that makes them contemporary and special.

Banana and Coconut Pancakes - Ingredients for 15 pancakes

8 units bananas

1.5 cups coconut

4 eggs

5 tablespoons sugar

3 tablespoons powdered sugar

A teaspoon of vanilla extract

A pinch of cinnamon

1 cup flour

10 grams baking powder

Oil for frying

Preparation method:

1. Slice the bananas.

2. Mix all ingredients together and form pancakes with a spoon.

3. Fry in semi-deep oil until golden brown.

4. When serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Roasted Pepper Pancakes - Ingredients for 15 Pancakes

1 kg red pepper

1kg green pepper

1 kg yellow pepper

1 cup flour

4 eggs

10 grams baking powder

1 tablespoon chopped tarragon

A teaspoon of chopped garlic

Salt, ground black pepper

Oil for frying

1/2 cup olive oil

Preparation method: 

1. Season the peppers with olive oil, salt, and ground black pepper.

2. Grill the peppers.

3. Peel the peppers and cut them into strips.

4. Mix all ingredients together and fry until golden brown.

Donut with chestnut cream and white chocolate - ingredients for 12 donuts

500 grams flour

2 eggs

100 grams margarine

25 grams yeast

A pinch of salt

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup oil

2 cups lukewarm water

Oil for frying

Ingredients for chestnut cream:

0.5 kg chestnuts

1/2 liter of cream

200 grams white chocolate

3 tablespoons nougat powder

2 tablespoons brown sugar

How to prepare the donuts:

1. Mix the yeast with 1/4 cup water and a tablespoon of flour and let soak for about 5 minutes.

2. Beat the eggs and sugar.

3. Melt the margarine.

4. Mix all ingredients and knead until a uniform dough is formed. Let the dough rest for about 30 minutes.

5. Form 12 circles from the dough, and let the dough rest for about another 30 minutes.

6. Heat the oil and fry the doughnut on each side until golden brown.

How to prepare chestnut cream:

1. Chop the chestnuts and bake in the oven at 200 degrees for 15 minutes, then peel the chestnuts.

2. Mix the chestnuts with the cream, nougat powder and sugar and boil over low heat for two minutes.

3. After removing from the heat, add the white chocolate and stir until the chocolate melts.

4. Transfer the cream to a food processor and blend until you obtain a creamy, uniform puree.

5. Cool the cream and pour into the donut.
