Singer and songwriter Amir Benayoun uploaded a new song to his Facebook page yesterday, entitled: 'Ahmed Loves Israel.'.
In the poem, Benayoun describes the character of an Arab student who pretends to be a joker, when his real intention is to murder Jews. Benayoun calls him "an ungrateful scumbag," and "the moment will come when you turn your back on me and I will stick a sharpened knife in you, I will shoot you in the back.".
The song caused a stir among leftists, and today Yael Dan Dion spoke with the singer on her program 'Making Afternoons' on Galei Tzahal - a discussion that ended with a phone call.
Vice President of the Israel Democracy Institute, Prof. Mordechai Kremnitzer, said in the discussion: "This poem is disgusting, shameful, presenting 'Ahmad' as a collective name for Arabs, as treacherous people. In other words, it takes the fact that there are terrorists from the Arab population and generalizes this to the entire population.".
According to him, "If they prove that Benayoun's intention is To incite contempt "And if he shows hostility and hostility towards a certain population, then he will be accused of inciting racism.".
Benayoun did not remain unmoved, and attacked: "According to your method, you are a murderer yourself because what you said just now is that you incited against me, so that you know that your mouth has consequences and I will not eat your slander.".
""If tomorrow someone near where I live murders people, will you take responsibility for the blood? Enough with the hypocrisy, I am inspired by the recent murders. You are murderers no less petty than yourselves, and because of your mouths, people are murdering - shame on you!", said Benayoun.
When Dan tried to calm the discussion, he slammed down the phone and ended the call.
Listen to the song, and also to the heated discussion.
On his Facebook page, Amir wrote: "To dispel any doubt, yesterday's song, 'Ahmed Loves Israel,' is intended to express feelings only, and does not call for any violence against anyone.
""We are absolutely against violence, and if we were violent, we would not sing painful songs that come straight from the heart. To all those who are shocked - I suggest that, first of all, you be shocked and afraid of the terror that is raging in the country. Be shocked first by Jews being murdered with blood-stained tallitts. By civilians being run over by human animals. By terrorists shooting at residents of the South from schools and hospitals. There are things much more shocking than a song that expresses pain and fear and nothing more.".
