The investigation into the terrorist's infiltration at noon (Tuesday) in the Ramim Ridge area indicates that he managed to enter Israeli territory and reached a distance of about a kilometer from the Margaliot settlement.

The incident occurred around 3:00 PM when the terrorist entered Israeli territory from Lebanon in Or Wadi Hunin, north of Moshav Margaliot, and opened fire on IDF forces stationed at the border.

The terrorist hid in a position and was eliminated after the fighters opened fire on him. There were no casualties among the IDF forces.

The terrorist was wearing a striped Hezbollah uniform, Crocs flip-flops, and was armed with a gun and a long knife. It is believed that he intended to infiltrate one of the Israeli settlements in the Ramim Ridge area.

Yinon Shalom Yatach, military and security correspondent for the i24 channel, wrote about the investigation:

  • At around 1:30 PM, a soldier in charge of logistical transport arrived at the area following a report of a fire.
  • The soldier recognized a suspicious figure in uniform and decided to deploy a combat force.
  • The force jumped to the point within a few minutes, dismounted at the point, heard gunfire and fired at its source. Following this shooting, the terrorist was eliminated.
  • The incident took place near the border, 1.2 kilometers from the settlement of Margaliot.
  • Immediately afterwards, additional forces arrived for foot searches, and at the same time, aerial searches were carried out with drones in the area in addition to the reinforcement of Air Force forces.
  • A night watchman was declared and the area was isolated to allow IDF forces, regional defense forces (Rabash'tzim, defense departments) and other security forces to conduct extensive scans to rule out additional threats.
  • Throughout the event, the IDF was in direct contact with local authorities and updated them with instructions.
  • During the searches, the terrorist was located on Israeli territory near the fence, wearing a uniform and armed with a long knife and a gun.
  • So far, it has not been possible to determine the terrorist's organizational affiliation.
  • At 5:50 PM, the IDF announced that the incident had ended in coordination with the authorities, after further threats were ruled out and following extensive scans and observations from the air and ground.
  • Upon receiving the report, the commander of the 91st Division, Brigadier General Yuval Gaz, and the commander of the 769th Regional Brigade, Colonel Yuval Mazuz, arrived on the scene along with additional forces to conduct an initial investigation and rule out an ongoing incident.
  • The incident was recently investigated by the Commander of the Northern Command, Major General Rafi Milo, following an investigation by the Commander of the 91st Division, Brigadier General Yuval Gaz, which was conducted in the field immediately after the incident.
  • The incident will be investigated by the Chief of Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir.

The IDF will be required to explain to the residents of the north: How did the occupied security strip in Lebanon, which was promised to protect the settlements in the home front from the threat of a raid, not prevent a terrorist from penetrating Israeli territory?

This is why the investigation of the incident reaches, and rightly so, all the way to the level of the Chief of Staff.
