Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today (Sunday) addressed the expansion of operational activity on the northern front and emphasized the strategic and historical importance of the area captured by IDF forces.
Netanyahu said in a statement: "We returned to Beaufort stronger than ever. Tonight our heroic fighters captured the Beaufort outpost. They proudly raised the flag of the State of Israel and the flag of the Golani Brigade there.".
The Prime Minister mentioned the complex historical context: "I remind you that 44 years ago this place was a symbol of a heroic battle of our fighters, but it was also a symbol of a deep disagreement within us.".
He emphasized the current change: "Today we returned to a different Beaufort. We returned united, determined, stronger than ever.".
Continuing his remarks, the Prime Minister shared details of a conversation he had over the weekend with the fighting forces on the front lines: "I spoke with the fighters on the northern border on Friday. They told me: 'Tell the people of Israel what we are doing here. Prime Minister, the public does not know what achievements we have.'".
Following the fighters' words, Netanyahu presented numerical data on the extent of the damage done to Hezbollah terrorists: "Well, since the beginning of the War of Rebirth, we have eliminated 8,000 Hezbollah terrorists. Since 'The Roar of the Harrier' - 3,000. In the last month alone - 700. That's more than anything we eliminated during the Second Lebanon War.".
Netanyahu explained that the moves on the ground are being carried out in accordance with the direct operational instructions he gave to the IDF High Command: "I instructed the IDF to expand the maneuver in Lebanon. Our forces crossed the Litani. They seized controlled areas. They occupied the Beaufort Ridge. And now my instruction is to deepen and expand our hold on places that were under Hezbollah's control.".
He defined the recent developments as a significant milestone: "The capture of Beaufort is a dramatic step and a dramatic change in the policy we are leading.".
He added, "We have broken the barrier of fear. We are proactive, we are active on all fronts - in Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, we have established security belts beyond our borders to protect our communities.".
At the end of his remarks, Netanyahu returned to the conversations he had with the command echelons in the field, and emphasized the determination of the commanders and soldiers: "On Friday, I spoke with the brigade commanders. They are bold brigade commanders, in the field, leading the heroic soldiers. And they told me: 'Prime Minister, we are carrying out the mission. We are charging forward - and Hezbollah has fled for its life.' And I told them: 'I am with you. The entire people of Israel are with you. It will take more time, but we will restore security to the residents of the north, just as we did to the residents of the south.' It will take time, but we will complete the mission.".
