MK Avigdor Lieberman, chairman of Yisrael Beiteinu, today (Monday) during his faction's meeting in the Knesset, criticized Yashar Party chairman Gadi Eisenkot for his declared intention to run for prime minister and the political campaign he is running.
Lieberman himself has already stated that he aspires to the position of Prime Minister.
""I appreciate Gadi Eisenkot," said Liberman. "He is a man of values and seriousness. The more serious people who enter the political system, the better and more qualitative the system will be. However, one is not appointed to be Chief of Staff immediately after receiving the rank of Major General. Gadi was the head of the IDF's Military Intelligence Unit and a Major General in the Northern Command and held other positions before becoming Chief of Staff.
""The same goes for the government - the desired path is to spend a period of several years as a senior minister, and preferably two senior positions before becoming prime minister. A stormy start does not guarantee success at the end of the race.".
He also attacked Eisenkot for the concessions he plans to make to the ultra-Orthodox: "Anyone who builds a coalition with Shas and United Torah Judaism gives up in advance on the draft law for all, core studies, public transportation on Shabbat - and on Yisrael Beiteinu.".
""I heard the reasoning that out of respect for the world of Torah, Gadi Eisenkot agreed to 4,500 exemptions. This is not respect for the Torah - it is a desecration of the Torah and blasphemy. Maimonides said that in the war of a mitzvah, even a groom leaves his room and a bride leaves her veil. Everyone must serve. Anyone who deals with Torah and does not engage in a job and makes a living from charity - this is blasphemy.".
Liberman also clarified in response to reporters' questions: "I hear commentators, and there are some who are liars and work for certain parties - not in exchange for the prime ministership or for any position, I will not sit with Netanyahu, Shas and United Torah Judaism. Read my lips - there is no chance that I will sit with Netanyahu, Shas and United Torah Judaism.
""Netanyahu should not even be minister for regional cooperation. Some of the Likud are partners in the next government, and I think I've made that clear too many times. Anyone who gives a different interpretation - it's all lies.".
