Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar was questioned today (Monday) at the Lahav 433 offices for the third time - as part of the Histadrut corruption affair.
Zohar was investigated on suspicion of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
According to a report in Kan News, the police have collected a lot of material on the connection between the minister and Ezra Gabbay, the main suspect in the Histadrut affair, who is also an activist for the minister in the Likud primaries.
The main suspicion: Gabbay managed to gain a foothold in workers' committees that brought him thousands of customers, while Zohar helped him open the doors to those workers' committees.
Zohar denies the suspicions and claims: "Everything I did was legitimate politics. That's how it works.".
Kan News reported that the reason for the investigation was wiretaps in which Gabbay was heard bragging about his connections with the minister and using his name to advance his own interests. It is suspected that bragging about these connections was part of a scheme aimed at transferring as many employees as possible, through large workers' committees, to his insurance company.
Gabbay is suspected of having counted thousands in favor of Zohar in the Likud party primary elections.
