Firefighters and volunteers from the Binyamin area worked this evening (Sunday) on a fire that broke out in an apartment on Ponbizh Street in the city of Modiin Illit.
Crews arriving at the scene detected flames and heavy smoke from an apartment on the third floor of the building.
The forces went up to the apartment and reported that the fire was in a room made of lightweight construction adjacent to the children's room, which had also started to catch fire. The teams worked to extinguish the fire while simultaneously carrying out smoke evacuation operations and searching for trapped people.
Reshef Yotam Sela, incident commander: "This is a fire that could have ended with bodily injuries, if the household members had not left the apartment when the fire broke out. This incident proves to us once again the importance of installing smoke detectors in the home!"
""The smoke detector warns of a fire outbreak and allows us to escape and save our loved ones.""
