Yaakov Wider, a member of the Bnei Brak City Council, submitted today (Wednesday) a request for an urgent discussion in the City Council, demanding an immediate investigation following reports and documentation that have accumulated in his office, which indicate that Palestinian workers - including minors - are employed as part of work carried out in the service and funded by the municipality.
Wieder wrote in his address to Mayor Hanoch Seibert: "To the extent that this is true, this is a serious scandal" - whether it concerns direct employment by the municipality or through external companies and contractors working for it.
Wider further claims that beyond the ban on employing minors, there is also a serious security danger: "In all the surveys conducted in Palestinian society, the percentages of support for terrorism are enormous, and there is no reason to assume that these percentages of support do not also exist among the workers employed in the city.".
As part of the proposal, Vider demands that the City Council make immediate decisions, including a ban on the employment of Palestinian workers by the municipality or through external companies, conducting a comprehensive inspection of all departments of the municipality and the companies budgeted by it regarding the employment of minors, and publishing a detailed report to members of the City Council within a week.
Wieder: “Public safety is not a priority and must be the municipality’s top priority.”.
According to the law, the mayor must raise the demand for a City Council hearing.
